Herceg Novi, the beautiful seaside town in the Bay of Boka Kotorska is renowned for many exotic plants brought back from different parts of the world by its sea captains such as Mimosa, Agave, Magnolia, Eucalyptus, Citruses, Jasmine.
In honor of the Mimosa flower, Mimosa Festival is established as an official event in 1969, and during the years it became one of the most popular events in Montenegro. It celebrates the existence of fluffy yellow flower mimosa.
The festival starts in February, at the end of winter to herald the spring. The traditional festival features numerous cultural and sports events, carnivals and masked balls. The special caravan with musicians, mimosas flowers and beautiful girls called majorettes make the tour around different European cities during the days of the festival promoting Herceg Novi and the Montenegrin culture.
Visitors can enjoy the sound of local music, taste fish and local wine and take the bunches of Mimosa as a souvenir. So while the rest of Europe is covered with snow, Herceg Novi would be the perfect destination to head to and be the part of traditional festival.
