The Old Olive Tree at Mirovica is claimed to be one of the oldest olive trees in the world, and it is believed to be the oldest tree in Europe. Its age is assessed to more then 2000 years. Because of its natural morphological, esthetic and historical significance, this exceptional monument of nature is proclaimed natural resource and put under State Protection 1957.
This noble and long-living woody evergreen plant belong to the class of domestic variety of the so called “zutica” to which major part of olive trees on the Montenegrin coast belongs to.
Its wide, curved, knotty and extensively ramifying tree with over 10 meter in diameter, with extraordinary and unique knob sand large crown with salutary fruit with egg-like kernels, and relatively tiny silver-grey green leaves represent the unique visual sight and original touristic attraction of Bar.
And this is one of the reasons why you need to visit this beautiful Town Bar on the Montenegro Coast. Tivat
The name Tivat apparently goes back to the 3rd century BC. According to most sources, the name comes from the old Illyris queen Teute, who had a residence was in Risan and a summer residence between the church of St Roco in Donja Lastva and Seljanovo. Besides the popular name Theudo, a Latin expression Latus Tiuveti comes from the 16th century. Finally, the name could originate from Celtic word “touto”, town.
Interesting facts about Bay of Kotor
The bay is composed of several smaller broad bays, united by narrower channels, forming one of the finest natural harbors in Europe. The bay inlet was formerly a river system. Very intensive tectonic and karstification processes led to the disintegration of this river. After heavy rains the famous waterfall of Sopot spring at Risan appears, and Škurda, another well-known spring runs through a canyon from Lovćen.
